9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. 11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. 12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command you.
To lay down ones life… At first glance I think of some of the sacrifices made, which have resulted in literal death. But I believe this laying down one’s life means so much more. Consider life as your time. Is what you are doing with your time mostly for you, or for those around you. Is your time spent only doing things with others that you yourself also enjoy, or are you willing to sometimes reach into a place of sacrificing precious time to give that time to another? Furthermore, are you willing to go out of your way, risk comfort, and be a light to someone who may not know Jesus; or maybe even someone who does…
And with time, lets never forget to spend time with our Heavenly Father and our best friend, Jesus. Spending time with the Lord is some of the best invested time we can spend while in this place.
James 4:14 yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.
