I’ve been asked on more than one occasion questions about what we can do. “As a Christian is it okay to drink? Can I still do this or that? I think this may be the wrong question to ask. Perhaps we should ask, “As a Christian, what can I do to bring light into this world, light to my friends and those I don’t know…
Ask that question of yourself today. Just asking that question is so much more positive than the typical questions, “Can I still do this”. I think still is the keyword here. The word still has a lot to do with change, or lack there of. Do you want God to use you to bring light and hope into the lives of others? If so, we as Christians need to continue growing and changing to be a reflection of Christ. We should always continue growing to be more like Christ.
1 Corinthians 10:23 NLT says this:
23 You say, “I am allowed to do anything”–but not everything is good for you. You say, “I am allowed to do anything”–but not everything is beneficial. 24 Don’t be concerned for your own good but for the good of others.
We should not put more focus on change and less focus on God. There’s things we cannot and should not do on our own. I believe we just need to focus on Him, change will follow.
I believe its also important to know, only Jesus lived life here on earth with no sin. Sin and temptation is something that doesn’t just go away. It’s something we battle throughout the rest of our lives. And one of the best ways to battle sin and temptation is by focusing more on Christ. Ephesians 6 talks about putting on the full Armor of God, which prepares you for this battle. If you were to go into battle back in the time Ephesians was written, what is the one thing you would be sure not leave at home? Your sword right? Ephesians 6 instructs us to put the full Armor of God on which includes the sword of the spirit which is the Word of God. Our focus needs to be on Him.
So I feel like I’m a little all over the place this morning. I’ll do my best to try to pull this all together. If you are a Christian or maybe you are considering making that decision, just know that God loves and cares for you very much. We’re Human, he knows we will never be perfect, and we will always fall short of the Glory of God. But this God of ours, he is so faithful to forgive. God wants a relationship with you. And He wants that relationship to grow. Following Christ will bring you much joy, but not without some challenges along the way. And He is always there to help see you through any challenges that come your way. Also, don’t let yourselves get stuck on what’s “normal”, from a worldly perspective. Don’t get stuck on that mindset, “what can I get away with doing”. Focus on his love, his grace. Focus on what you can do to bring light into the lives of others. With our focus on him we can be free of those other thoughts and begin living in this more fulfilling adventure.
Christianity is truly a great adventure, and God has a plan for you.
