Have you ever felt inadequate or far from God’s love, as though you’ve just messed up too many times? You have this yearning to be in relationship with God but feel like there’s no hope. Perhaps you feel far away from Him and consider, is it something I have done? Maybe I’m just too far off? Sometimes thoughts like this will hit me and I have to respond with his truth. We can believe that his word is truth always, our thoughts – not always true.
Lets look at Romans 5:10-11
10 For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. 11 So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.
I really like this verse because it puts unfruitful thoughts like this to death. There’s a catch – you must believe his word over your thought. If God was willing to go to this extreme while we were his ENEMIES, when we didn’t even care to think twice about God, how much more is he going to be there with you now that you desire relationship? While you were his enemy he was sending his only Son Jesus who willingly paid the penalty for our sins. Yet during a confusing season we consider that this same God who did that is saying, “nope they had their chance I’m done with them, they were once my enemy and I loved them so much that I sent my son, but now that they they love me and have turned to me – they are dealing with self doubt. That’s it – I’m done with them.”
Sounds so false because it is – its a lie.
God is the same yesterday, today and forever – the love he had for you when he sent Jesus is the same love he has for you today. The same love he had for you when he brought you to know him, when you were far off, is the same love he has for you today. Sometimes these seasons will highlight changes that can be made, but never think for a moment God has left you or stopped loving you. If the thought doesn’t make sense compared to his word – throw it out. His word remains true in all situations.
His love endures forever.
