I awoke, unsure of what was happening. All I know is that I’m helplessly plummeting toward earth without a clue of how I got here. The thickness of clouds below make it impossible to know how long I have before I die. I attempt slowing my fall by rolling myself into the belly flop position. I try everything to gain control. No matter how much I do to prolong my time, I know the end is coming. Desperate, I even try flapping my arms. Coming to the end of myself I surrender. Something catches my attention, about an arm’s length away, I see a parachute! I quickly reach for it and it draws closer to me. I take it and put it on, the chute immediately deploys. I’m saved! I see countless others falling around me. And there, right beside each of them, a parachute! Some are flapping their arms with little to no knowledge of the parachute right beside them. Some flap their arms better than others, but it really doesn’t matter. Others don’t do anything, as though they’ve accepting their fate. The problem is that they’ve all at some point fallen and death is quickly approaching. I call out to them, “you cannot save yourself, turn to the parachute and put it on!” But it’s as though very few can hear or see. But I won’t give up. I keep calling out because someone just may have an ear to hear and a heart to see.
Like the rest of us, you are going to die and you don’t know when. We begin our lives loving ourselves and loving our own personalized collection of sin, but it has never provided lasting joy. Can you think of any sin you’ve committed 3 months ago that is still producing real joy in your life today? Are you not in the same spot you were in? It brings death. Yet, we go back to it again and again as a slave reports back to their abusive master, one who’s killing us. Selfishness, pride, idolatry, lies, we are all guilty of sin. We must turn from our sin and turn toward Jesus. Jesus provides the only way of Salvation. There is freedom in Christ!
If you can’t see, turn from your sin and ask Jesus to open your eyes and mind to the truth. Jesus, I ask you open this person’s eyes to see, and if they’re Christian, to see with even more clarity.
Acts 4:11 This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. 12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
Romans 13:14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
