I know the Holy Spirit is ready and willing to strengthen and empower us as followers of Christ. Are we giving him the opportunity? I recently read a commentary stating, God didn’t give us the power of the Holy Spirit to feel something, but to accomplish something.
In Acts 2:4 it says, “And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages”
This happened on the day of Pentecost when all the believers were meeting together in one place. As soon as they were filled they began speaking in other languages – why? To accomplish something! There were also others there that day, devout Jews from all different places, who were “completely amazed” to hear their own language being spoken. And then Peter who was also filled with the Holy Spirit, came forward to preach a message, a great message might I add. (Acts 2 14-41) and by the end of this message 3,000 were added to the church that day. With the Holy Spirit, truly awesome things are accomplished.
When I feel the Holy Spirit close, it feels like I’m on the mountain top, I’m full of joy and peace. But I cannot let that be the sole purpose for accepting the Holy Spirit in my life, just so I can walk around being joyful all day. There are so many who have yet to feel the love of Jesus. I must continue forward and witness to others as the Holy Spirit gives me the confidence, the boldness and ultimately his help in doing so.
May we all, who believe, accept this truth that the Holy Spirit increases our ability to share the gospel as well as our own testimony of faith in God, and he wants to accomplish something with you today. May we give our full trust in the Lord today and allow the Holy Spirit to work in us and through us.
