It was very nice spending time with Family this Christmas. The opportunity to exchange gifts was nice. However, it’s the experiences that I wouldn’t trade for the world. Whether it be a dinner with family, a foot race with my niece, sharing some dance moves in the kitchen, a game played at the table or a talk about God over some warm menudo before going bed. I feel lucky and blessed to have been able to spend time with my family and I am especially grateful we were able to have some family come down from both Phoenix and Fort Collins.
These experiences are the gifts I hold close. It is one of my goals to make experiences like this a more regular thing. The experiences are priceless and are truly a gift from God, given to us each and every day. We have the opportunity to take advantage of these gifts daily. Maybe through a phone call, an email, perhaps a lunch or dinner, a visit, or even a Skype family game night.
I was once told the best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time. Odd saying but true. I know work and life can distract us and get us into a routine. And more than likely you are not going to get with family outside your own home every night or even every weekend. That’s the elephant…
But maybe if we take a small bite of that elephant and once a month make a commitment to do something special, perhaps we’ll be able to take advantage of these gifts just a little bit more.
